Japan's Elpida to raise $844 mln in share offering

TOKYO, Sept 1 (Reuters) - Japanese chipmaker Elpida Memory Inc 6665.T said on Tuesday it would raise up to 78.5 billion yen ($843.6 million) by issuing 55 million new common shares to invest in new equipment and help pay back its debt.
