LONDON, Sept 2 (Reuters) - Danish shipping and oil group A.P. Moller-Maersk's (MAERSKb.CO) $1.8 billion share placement is covered, people familiar with the matter said.

The deal, which was launched Wednesday morning and was "comfortably covered" at around 1200 GMT, attracted a mixture of big institutional investors in the U.S., UK and Nordic area, one source said.

The firm announced on Wednesday it was offering up to 250,340 non-voting B shares, or about 5.7 percent of its share capital, held as treasury stock. [ID:NL2424408]

The pricing of the accelerated book-build will be fixed later Wednesday.

At 1336 GMT, Moller-Maersk shares traded 8.4 percent lower at 33,900 crowns each. (Reporting by Daisy Ku; Editing by Hans Peters)
