HK shares rise 2.8 pct;biggest 1-day gain in 6 weeks

HONG KONG, Sept 4 (Reuters) - Hong Kong shares closed up 2.8 percent on Friday to post their biggest single-day gain in six weeks, after China increased the limit for stock investments by foreign funds to $1 billion in a show of support for the market.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index .HSI finished 556.94 points higher at 20,318.62.

The index rose 1.1 percent on the week, snapping a two-week losing streak.

The China Enterprises Index .HSCE, which represents top locally listed mainland Chinese stocks, was up 2.9 percent at 11,760.55 while the Shanghai Composite Index .SSEC had risen 0.6 percent. (Reporting by Parvathy Ullatil; Editing by Jonathan Hopfner)
