Toys "R" Us gets KB Toys trademark via CE Stores
* Toys "R" Us buys KB Toys trademark, website
* Yet to determine how it can use KB Toys in portfolio
SEATTLE, Sept 4 (Reuters) - Privately held Toys "R" Us said on Friday that it bought bankrupt KB Toys' brand including KBToys.com, trademarks and other intellectual property rights, through Toys "R" Us' wholly owned subsidiary CE Stores LLC.
Toys "R" Us is yet to decide how it can use KB Toys in its portfolio. Meanwhile, shoppers trying to access KBToys.com will be directed to Toys.com, which is run by Toys "R" Us, the company said in a statement.
KB Toys filed for bankruptcy in December, citing a sharp drop in sales and held "going out of business" sales at its approximately 460 stores earlier this year.
It sold its trademark, logos and Web addresses at a bankruptcy auction for $2.1 million in August to CE Stores, a retail operator, according to a bankruptcy adviser who ran the auction at that time. [ID:nN06318090]
CE Stores is a wholly owned subsidiary of Toys "R" Us, company spokeswoman Kathleen Waugh said in a statement.
Earlier this year, Toys "R" Us also bought rival brand FAO Schwarz for an undisclosed amount. [ID:nSP398306] (Reporting by Aarthi Sivaraman in Seattle, editing by Matthew Lewis)
