Amtrak, TSA and Local Law Enforcement Launch Operation ALERTS at Northeast
Corridor Rail Stations from Virginia to Vermont

WHO: Amtrak Police, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) personnel,
and law enforcement officers from more than 100 federal, state, local, rail
and transit police agencies across 13 states and Washington, D.C.

WHAT: Operation ALERTS (Allied Law Enforcement for Rail and Transit Security)
-- a multi-force, multi-agency deployment to include security activities and
random baggage inspections at unannounced locations along the Northeast
Corridor area in an exercise of expanded counterterrorism and incident
response capabilities.
WHEN: Wednesday, September 9, 2009 -- During morning and evening rush hours
WHERE: Approximately 150 railway stations between Richmond, Virginia, and
Essex Junction (Burlington), Vermont. Operation ALERTS will take place in
Washington, D.C., and the following 13 states: CT, DE, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY,
PA, RI, VA, VT and WV.
Amtrak and/or TSA spokespeople will be available at the following rail
