India's Jet pilot strike hits flight schedules

MUMBAI, Sept 9 | Wed Sep 9, 2009 5:22am EDT

MUMBAI, Sept 9 (Reuters) - Jet Airways (JET.BO), India's top carrier, expects to cancel a total of 174 domestic and 32 international flights on Wednesday as services take a hit from a flash strike by pilots for the second day, Chief Operating Officer Hamid Ali told reporters.

Jet officials said it was difficult to estimate revenue losses at the moment but said bookings had come down to 14,000 passengers a day from an average of 23,000 booking.

More than 350 pilots, banned from striking without informing the airline's management in advance, have reported sick since Tuesday, forcing the cancellation of flights affecting about 13,000 passengers. [ID:nBOM147975] (Reporting by Aniruddha Basu)
