ICE US dollar index futures see record volume Sept 8

NEW YORK, Sept 9 (Reuters) - IntercontinentalExchange reported on Wednesday that a record number of U.S. dollar index futures contracts traded hands on Tuesday.

ICE Futures, a leading regulated U.S. futures exchange for global agricultural, equity index and currency markets, reported 47,404 dollar contracts changes hands on Sept. 8, breaking the previous record of 45,614 contracts, established on Sept. 10, 2008.

Average daily volume is 6,687 contracts year to date, according to the exchange with open interest at 38,153 contracts.

The ICE Futures U.S. dollar index is comprised of six component currencies, the euro, Japanese yen, British pound, Canadian dollar, Swedish krona and Swiss franc.

The dollar index .DXY fell 0.9 percent on Tuesday, its biggest one day loss in about six weeks. (Reporting by Nick Olivari)
