Spain's Natra, Barry Callebaut scrap merger talks

MADRID, Sept 9 | Wed Sep 9, 2009 12:21pm EDT

MADRID, Sept 9 (Reuters) - Spanish food group Natra (NATR.MC) said on Wednesday that talks with Swiss group Barry Callebaut (BARN.S) to merge the companies' chocolate businesses had ended without agreement.

"The two sides have not managed to agree to an operation under the terms set out in the letter of intentions," Natra said in a statement to Spain's stock market regulator.

Natra originally agreed to merge its cocoa and chocolate business with Barry Callebaut's Stollwerck division in March, through an agreement whereby the Swiss company would buy a majority stake in Natra after it absorbed Stollwerck. [ID:nWEA0084]
