Baucus: Obama speech boosted healthcare reform bid

WASHINGTON, Sept 10 | Thu Sep 10, 2009 12:19pm EDT

WASHINGTON, Sept 10 (Reuters) - Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus said on Thursday President Barack Obama's healthcare speech helped boost his panel's effort to craft a bipartisan overhaul of the $2.5 trillion U.S. health system.

"The president's speech breathed new life into what we are doing," Baucus said, adding the plans outlined by Obama were similar to proposals negotiators are trying to draw up and helped "build confidence" among the bipartisan group.
