Sept 11 (Reuters) - Delcath Systems Inc (DCTH.O) said an independent group of experts recommended a late-stage trial of its cancer treatment to continue patient enrollment after reviewing clinical data on the already enrolled patients.

The company said it now expects enrollment to be completed by mid-October and was still on track for a regulatory submission by mid-2010.

The late-stage study is testing the company's Percutaneous Hepatic Perfusion (PHP) technology for the regional delivery of a chemotherapy drug, melphalan, to the liver to treat patients who have unresectable tumors in the liver.

The PHP system delivers significantly higher doses of anti-cancer drugs to the liver without exposing the patient's entire body to those same potent levels of drug.

Shares of the company rose 8 percent in pre-market trade. They closed at $3.85 Thursday on Nasdaq. (Reporting by Esha Dey in Bangalore; Editing by Ratul Ray Chaudhuri)
