At the time of his retirement from the U.S. Federal government in March 2009,
Mr. Bush served as an Assistant Director of the FBI, heading the Criminal
Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division. The CJIS Division is the largest
division in the FBI and serves as the focal point for a wide range of federal
justice initiatives, including the Integrated Automated Fingerprint
Identification System (IAFIS). IAFIS is the US Government's national
fingerprint and criminal history system that provides automated fingerprint
search capabilities, latent searching capability, electronic image storage,
and electronic exchange of fingerprints and responses, 24 hours a day, 365
days a year. IAFIS maintains the largest criminal biometric database in the
world, containing the fingerprints for more than 60 million subjects. The
fingerprints and corresponding criminal history information are submitted
voluntarily by state, local, and Federal law enforcement agencies.
Mr. Bush became an FBI agent in 1979 and served in several FBI field office
and special investigation assignments in addition to leadership positions with
the agency's CJIS Division and Information Resources Division. "We are very
fortunate to have Tom Bush, who brings a unique blend of experience and
stature, join our team," said Mike DePasquale, BIO-key's CEO. "His advice and
counsel will be instrumental in assisting us as we fine tune our
industry-leading fingerprint-based biometric technologies to meet the business
requirements of government and commercial customers."
"We're seeing a strong infusion of biometric solutions into the commercial
markets including healthcare, finance and general services, mostly a result of
the widespread success and expansion of government initiatives that have
proven the security and scalability of finger biometric technologies beyond
forensics," stated Tom Bush. "I look forward to working with BIO-key, a
leader in the biometrics industry, to further increase the adoption and
widespread use of biometrics beyond the conventional while reducing fraud and
malfeasance and increasing convenience of authentication and security for all
consumers."
