NEC, Casio, Hitachi to merge mobile phone ops

TOKYO, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Japan's NEC Corp (6701.T) will merge its cellphone operations with a joint cellphone venture held by Casio Computer Co (6952.T) and Hitachi Ltd (6501.T) to save development and manufacturing costs, the three firms said on Monday.

NEC would hold 70.74 percent in the new mobile phone venture, while Casio would hold 20 percent and Hitachi 9.26 percent, they said.
