WASHINGTON, Sept 16 (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama said on Wednesday the global economy was not out of the woods yet but there were signs of stability.

Meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Obama told reporters the U.S. and Canadian economies were heading in the direction of positive growth.

Harper said he agreed that economic recovery was underway, but he described it as fragile.
