LOS ANGELES, Sept 22 (Reuters) - Iberdrola Renewables Inc IBR.MC has received approval for nearly $251 million of federal stimulus funds to support wind energy projects in three U.S. states, the Spanish-owned company said on Tuesday.

The three grants were awarded to wind projects in Iowa, Missouri and Texas.

The U.S. Treasury Department, which approved the grants, had previously awarded the company nearly $300 million of grants for five other wind projects in Texas, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Oregon. [ID:nN01503602]

Portland, Oregon-based Iberdrola Renewables is an 80 percent-owned unit of Spain's Iberdrola SA (IBE.MC). It plans to spend $6 billion on renewable energy facilities in the United States through 2012. (Reporting by Laura Isensee; editing by Braden Reddall and Steve Orlofsky)
