Following are some of the main Canadian companies in the sector, and their biggest wind operations and projects:

* Innergex Renewable Energy Inc operates the 109.5 MW Carleton wind farm in Quebec, which reached commercial start up in 2008. It has several wind projects under development.
* Boralex Inc finalized financing this month for the construction of its Thames River wind farm in Ontario, which will have total installed capacity of 40 MW.

* AltaGas Income Trust launched its first wind farm in August, the 102 MW Bear Mountain Wind Park located near Dawson Creek, British Columbia. It is the first wind facility in B.C. to feed power to the grid. Once fully built out later this year it will provide electricity to about 31,000 homes.
* Western Wind Energy Corp produces 34 MW of energy from two wind farms in California.
