Sept 23 (Reuters) - Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc's LEHMQ.PK former chief operating officer Herbert "Bart" McDade and former head of principal investing Alex Kirk are planning to launch an investment fund called River Birch Capital, the New York Post said on Wednesday.

River Birch could be eyeing distressed assets and other fixed-income debt, including high-yield securities, according to the paper.

The fund may also be looking at some of the mortgages and other esoteric securities still owned by Lehman, the paper said, citing a source.

McDade and Kirk could not be immediately reached for comment by Reuters. (Reporting by Ajay Kamalakaran in Bangalore; Editing by David Holmes)
