Evergreen Solar names new head of Asian operations

LOS ANGELES | Wed Sep 23, 2009 3:57pm EDT

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Evergreen Solar Inc has hired a new general manager for its Asia operations, Henry Ng, as the U.S. solar company prepares to expand in China, Evergreen said on Wednesday.

The company, which makes silicon wafers used in solar panels, plans to build a 100-megawatt plant in China through a contract manufacturing deal with Jiawei Solarchina Co Ltd.

Ng, who previously worked with Suntech Power Holding Co Ltd as general manager of the solar panel maker's factory in Wuxi, China, will help Evergreen work with Jiawei.

His hiring comes a month after Evergreen's vice president of operations, Rodolfo Archbold, resigned.

Evergreen's results have lagged analysts' profit expectations this year. The Marlboro, Massachusetts-based company posted a slightly bigger-than-expected second-quarter loss in July as well as a loss in the first quarter.
