TOKYO, Sept 24 (Reuters) - Leaders of the world's biggest countries will say in a statement after their meeting this week that downside risks persist in the short and long-term, Japan's Kyodo News reported on Thursday.

Leaders from the Group of 20 nations will emphasise that further action is still needed to ensure that positive indications of economic stabilisation are nurtured, Kyodo's English language service said, citing officials preparing for the summit, to be held in Pittsburgh on Thursday and Friday.

G20 leaders will say their collective efforts have helped to finally arrest a precipitous decline in global economic activity, the news service said, without specifying its source.

G20 leaders, taking special notice of rising unemployment and income inequality, will agree that much more work needs to be done in improving training programmes and social protection measures, Kyodo reported, citing the officials.
