NEW YORK, Sept 24 (Reuters) - American Electric Power Co Inc (AEP.N) planned to restart its 528-megawatt Welsh Unit 3 coal-fired power plant in Texas on Sept. 24-29, the company told Texas regulators in a report.

The unit had been shut for scheduled maintenance.

The 1,584-megawatt Welsh plant is located in Cason in Titus County in Texas, about 130 miles (209 km) east of Dallas. The plant has three 528 MW units which entered service in 1977, 1980 and 1982.

One megawatt powers about 500 homes in Texas.

AEP's Southwestern Electric Power Co (SWEPCO) subsidiary owns and operates the station.

AEP, of Columbus, Ohio, owns and operates more than 38,000 MW of generating capacity, markets energy commodities, and transmits and distributes electricity to more than 5 million customers in 11 states. (Reporting by Joe Silha; Editing by Christian Wiessner)
