BRIGHTON, England, Sept 28 (Reuters) - Britain is extending its car scrappage scheme to cover an additional 100,000 vehicles, Business Secretary Peter Mandelson said on Monday.

Introduced earlier this year, the scheme gives drivers 2,000 pounds to trade in cars more than 10 years old for a new model. Half of the money comes from the government and the other half from the industry.

"Today, I am extending our popular car scrappage scheme with extra money for an additional 100,000 cars and vans," Mandelson told ruling Labour's annual party conference.
