SAfrica's Implats resumes ops at mine shaft

JOHANNESBURG, Sept 29 | Tue Sep 29, 2009 6:22am EDT

JOHANNESBURG, Sept 29 (Reuters) - Impala Platinum (IMPJ.J) said on Tuesday it had resumed operations at a shaft at its Rustenburg mine in South Africa which was suspended last week Monday following a fatality at the mine.

Spokesman Bob Gilmour also said the company would lose 100,000 ounces in output of Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) in the financial year to end-June as a result of work stoppages during a wage strike and following fatalities at its operations.

"We lost 100,000 ounces due to the strike and the unfortunate incidents for the financial year to June (next year) ... We can try and recover but it is very difficult," he told Reuters.
