LOS ANGELES, Sept 29 (Reuters) - Orexigen Therapeutics Inc (OREX.O) plans to announce early on Wednesday results from a mid-stage trial of its second experimental weight loss drug, Empatic.

A conference call will be held at 8:30 a.m. ET to discuss the results, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

Empatic combines the antidepressant Wellbutrin, also known as bupropion, with the anti-epileptic drug zonisamide.

Orexigen said in July it planned to file in the first half of next year for regulatory approval of Contrave, an experimental weight loss drug that combines bupropion with a sustained-release version of naltrexone, an opioid blocker used to treat alcoholism and other addictions.

The company's shares, which rose 1.4 percent in regular trading on Nasdaq, were up another 3.9 percent at $10.21 after hours. (Reporting by Deena Beasley; Editing by Gary Hill)
