BOGOTA, Sept 30 (Reuters) - Colombia's foreign direct investment fell to $4.89 billion in the first half of the year from $5.41 billion in the same 2008 period, the central bank said on Wednesday.

The country ran a current account deficit of $1.7 billion in the first six months of the year versus $2.55 billion, the central bank said in a report.

Remittances from Colombians working abroad fell to $2.085 billion in the first half, down from $2.330 billion in the same 2008 period, the report said. (Reporting by Nelson Bocanegra)
