Polish c.banker sees zloty gaining in medium term

WARSAW, Sept 30 (Reuters) - Poland's zloty currency may gain in medium term, central bank's Monetary Policy Council (MPC) member Marian Noga said late on Wednesday.

"Poland expressed its will to enter the euro zone and that is why I'd say the zloty will rather be in a appreciating trend at least in the medium term," Noga told TVN CNBC.

Noga also said economic growth in the third quarter may stand at above 1 percent on a yearly basis. He added, reiterating his earlier comments, that if this came true Poland's economy could expand by more than 2 percent in 2010.

"There is a chance that full-year (2009) growth would stand at 1.3 percent and next year's would stand at 2 percent. (Achieving) 2.3-2.4 percent (in 2010) is also possible," he added.

Analysts polled by Reuters expect 1.0 percent growth in 2009 and 1.8 percent in 2010. (Reporting by Kuba Jaworowski; Editing by Diane Craft)
