GENEVA (Reuters) - The United States urged Iran at talks in Geneva on Thursday to take 'concrete and practical steps' to demonstrate its nuclear program is not intended to develop atomic weapons, the State Department said.

A statement said Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs William Burns made the appeal at the highest level talks with Iranian officials in three decades. The meeting took place during broader talks between representatives of leading world powers and Iran.

"He addressed the need for Iran to take concrete and practical steps that are consistent with its international obligations and that will build international confidence in the exclusively peaceful nature of it program," the statement said.
