FRANKFURT, Germany Oct 1 (Reuters) - Arcandor (AROG.DE) supervisory board chairman Friedrich Carl Janssen has resigned, German newspaper Financial Times Deutschland said in an advance copy of its Friday edition.

The resignation is largely symbolic since the supervisory board hasn't played an active role in managing the retail group since it filed for insolvency in June after its request for state aid was turned down.

Janssen is said to have written to colleagues on the supervisory board informing them of the move, FTD says citing a copy of the letter.

FTD reported that another member of the supervisory board, representing shareholders, has also resigned, without naming the person.

A spokesman for Arcandor wasn't immediately available for comment. (Reporting by Edward Taylor; Editing by Derek Caney)
