Expanded Partnership Delivers Java MIDP 3 Enhancements

CUPERTINO, Calif. and SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Ecrio, the
pioneer in real-time, rich media communications and mobile commerce software,
and Aplix, the global leader in deploying Java technology in mobile phones and
other consumer electronic devices, today announced an agreement to make
Ecrio's rich IP communications capabilities available to thousands of Java
developers and applications via the Aplix JBlend(TM) Java platform. The joint
solution will simplify the development and roll-out of rich mobile
applications and complete end-to-end services.

As the development lead for Mobile Information Device Profile 3.0 (MIDP 3.0),
Aplix will leverage new MIDP 3.0 capabilities, such as idle screen midlets,
inter-midlet communication and concurrency, while taking advantage of Ecrio's
SIP/IMS framework and 'application empowerment' enhancements. The combination
will enable compelling Java applications that surpass those available on
today's most sophisticated smartphones. As one example, the first joint demo
features a Java application developed by Ecrio partner Persistent Systems,
running on Aplix's JBlend platform, and integrated with the Ecrio-powered Rich
Communications Suite (RCS) and Voice Over IP (VoIP) client framework.

Ecrio founder and CEO Nagesh Challa said, "The global popularity of Java-based
devices made it imperative that Ecrio attract recognized Java experts such as
Aplix. As operators and device suppliers eagerly look to launch rich services
while minimizing their risk and investment, the Ecrio IP communications suite
and Aplix JBlend platform make a powerful combination."

"Since 1999, Aplix has shipped its JBlend platform on over 500 million Java
devices," said Ryu Koriyama, Aplix CEO. "We've succeeded by staying at the
forefront of new developments, as our formal, ongoing role on the Java Expert
Group will attest. Our work with Ecrio unlocks a whole new range of rich IP
communication services in Java applications. We anticipate Aplix customers
taking early advantage of these capabilities with an exciting array of new
applications."

Personal demonstrations of the new Java application, featuring RCS and VoIP
capabilities and running on the JBlend platform and the Ecrio client
framework, are available at CTIA, San Diego, which runs from October 6 - 9.
