MTS Appoints New Board Member

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MTS Systems Corporation
(Nasdaq: MTSC) today announced the election of Gail P. Steinel to its Board of
Directors.  Ms. Steinel, former Global Managing Partner of Arthur Andersen's
Business Consulting Division, brings significant experience in global business
strategy, operations and finance.

Ms. Steinel currently has her own business, Executive Advisors, providing
companies with leadership development services and advice on entering new
markets and improving operations.  She serves on the Board of Trustees of
Federal Realty Investment Trust and is the chairperson of the audit committee.
Her career experience includes five years at BearingPoint, a global technology
and management consulting company, as Executive Vice President, Consumer,
Industrial & Technology business unit and twenty-three years of progressive
management experience at Arthur Andersen, where her final position was Global
Managing Partner of the Business Consulting Division with 10,000 employees
operating in 85 countries.  Gail also serves on the board of the non-profit
organization, Shelter our Sisters.  Gail is a CPA.
