UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PIPS Technology, a
Federal Signal Company, today announces that its Automated License Plate
Recognition (ALPR) technology is helping almost a dozen agencies in and around
the Denver area to protect and serve the region.

Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) adopted the PIPS solution just over
one year ago, and the system has been generating amazing results. The system
has identified roughly 3,700 vehicles of interest to law enforcement. "We're
monitoring a number of different databases of interest including Colorado
Crime Information Center, Colorado Department of Revenue, and sexual predators
to name a few. This one system is resulting in daily arrests of individuals
that pose a threat to our community. The first system has been so valuable,
we are now in the process of investing in an additional number of units,"
states Captain Mark Fisher of ACSO.

Neighboring Douglas County has also been impressed with the PIPS system.
Having used the system for almost two months, the cars that are equipped with
the system have scanned over 43,000 plates and have identified just over 250
vehicles of interest.

These agencies, and others around Denver, are working with each other to
enable the data sharing functionality available in the PIPS Back Office System
Software (BOSS). Craig Cantrell, Vice President and General Manager of PIPS,
shares "Harnessing the investigative potential of license plate data is key to
realizing the full potential of ALPR, as it's no longer just about finding
stolen vehicles. I'm proud to say that our ALPR system coupled with the
investigative power of our BOSS back office solution has been a vital tool in
solving robberies, homicides, gang violence, and many other crimes around the
country. Due to the many successes we are seeing at agencies large and small,
the PIPS ALPR system is quickly becoming one of those 'must-have tools' for
law enforcement."
