ISTANBUL Oct 5 (Reuters) - World Bank President Robert Zoellick said on Monday he expects the institution to lend a record $40 billion to middle-income developing countries this year, warning that the world economy was not yet out of danger.

"The world economy is still in a precarious state ... we nmay have broken the fall in financial markets but we are still some way away from a self-sustaining recovery," Zoellick told a news conference during meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

He said developing economies had sent a strong message during the meetings on the need to be prepared for a possible economic setback in 2010.
