DUBLIN--(Business Wire)--
Research and Markets
(http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/f90445/report_on_under_co) has
announced the addition of the "Report on Under Construction Thermal Power Plants
(2009)" report to their offering.

Thermal Power has always been the main source of electricity generation in India
and will continue to remain the linchpin of the Indian power sector for at least
the next few decades, given the large domestic coal resources and the absence of
any other significant domestic energy sources in the country. Thermal power
will, thus, help increase the availability of electricity which is an urgent
development priority for the country.

The present total installed capacity of India is 1,47,457 MW (as in January
2009, of which 63.3% is thermal, 24.9% hydel, 2.8% nuclear and 9% renewable.
Capacity addition target during XI Plan is 78700 MW of which more than 75% is to
be contributed by thermal power. Out of this 75% (>59000 MW), only 14% (8439 MW)
has been commissioned as of January 31, 2009. Of the 8439 MW commissioned
capacity, private sector contribution has been 1000 MW, while central and state
sector added 2740 MW and 4699 MW, respectively.

It is interesting to note here that private sector constitutes more than 40%
(-28000 MW) of the total thermal power capacity under construction, for benefits
during the rest of the XI Plan and beyond, in various states of the country.
Both the central and the state sector share the balance under construction
thermal capacity in almost equal proportions, i.e. about 30%. The Western region
accounts for 42% of the total thermal capacity under construction followed by
northern, eastern and southern and north-eastern regions with 22%, 20%, 15% and
1% respectively.

The report is prepared very meticulously 'state-wise,' giving state installed
capacity and capacity addition scenario during the XI Plan, map plotting the
district location of the thermal power projects under construction, the energy
mix in the state, state's main utilities, peak power demand/deficit and energy
requirement/deficit followed by detailed status of ALL thermal power projects
under construction in the state. In all, the report covers 17 states having a
total of 84 under construction thermal power projects in India (running into
about 220 pages). Status on each project comprehensively covers the details
including Project Location, Promoter of the Project, Project Cost, Expenditure
till date, Financial Closure, Power Purchase Agreement, details on Regulatory
Clearances Achieved, the Latest Status as regards the Construction of the
Project, Critical Areas (if any) and Project Background.
