NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa.--(Business Wire)--
Project Management Institute (PMI), the world`s leading project management
organization, will recognize NASA for 40 years of shared project management
success on 11 October during PMI®
Global Congress 2009-North America in Orlando, Fla. As PMI celebrates its
40th anniversary, they also commemorate the 40th anniversary of a significant
NASA milestone - the Apollo 11 lunar landing.
Throughout history, NASA has invested in and applied key principles of project
management to support the achievement of its momentous milestones. As a member
of the PMI® Global Corporate Council (GCC), they have taken a critical role in
shaping the current project management landscape. The NASA Academy of
Program/Project and Engineering Leadership is one of the leading program and
project management development programs in the U.S. government - and even around
the world. Additionally, in 1998, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory`s Mars
Pathfinder Mission project was named PMI Project of the Year for its innovative
approaches.
Over the past 40 years, PMI has become a global thought leader in the project
management community, and since its founding in 1969, it has grown to more than
500,000 members and credential holders in more than 185 countries.
"NASA has one of the most mature project management programs of any of the U.S.
government agencies; they are a model that other organizations look to when they
develop their own project management programs," said Gregory Balestrero,
president and CEO of PMI. "What NASA has achieved through its pursuit of project
management excellence serves as inspiration for generations and will continue to
do so in the future."
