FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, Oct 08 (MARKET WIRE) --
Sanswire Corp. (OTCBB: SNSR) (www.sanswire.com), through its joint
venture Sanswire-TAO Corp, have unveiled the initial STS-111, their new
Mid Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The
STS-111 is designed to provide persistent surveillance capabilities and
to work in tandem with other currently deployed UAVs in various domestic
and overseas operations.
"The STS-111 represents a step forward in providing extended duration,
persistent surveillance at a significantly lesser cost due to our unique
lighter than air design," said Captain David Christian, CEO of Sanswire.
"Our overall goal is to deliver the completed STS-111 to our systems
integrator and operator where various tasks will take place leading to
extended duration flight demonstrations of the STS-111 for various
potential customers."
The STS-111 has a lightweight, aerodynamic, envelope structure measuring
111 feet in length and 11 feet in height, and is based on the patented
multi-segmented, non-rigid design. This design is extremely flexible and
enables the airship to cope with winds encountered during flight. It is
designed to fulfill a range of desired mission profiles at altitudes up to
15,000 feet. Depending on weather conditions, the STS-111 can perform
persistent loitering or racetrack operations nonstop for an estimated two
and a half days carrying a payload of ISR/Comm equipment to provide up to
a 200-kilometer operational line of sight. The STS-111 has been designed
to rapidly unfold from its standard-size crate and be prepared and
launched from virtually anywhere with no need for a large hangar or an
exposed mooring platform.
The STS-111 is powered by a lightweight, highly efficient engine that was
modified to operate using Sanswire-TAO's patented FuelGas airship design.
The FuelGas design is comprised of complex customized systems developed by
Sanswire-TAO. Implementation of the FuelGas system provides significant
gains in endurance, duration, and performance over other airship designs
that rely on burning liquid fuel, which is heavy and causes changes in
buoyancy and weight while burning. These issues do not apply to the
FuelGas powered STS-111, making it a more efficient platform.
Captain Christian concluded, "We are extremely pleased with the
development of the STS-111, and its unveiling provides an opportunity to
the security community to witness its uniqueness. I view the STS-111 as a
vital tool for our national security. I look forward to the STS-111
coming to the United States for demonstrations and to work with our new
integrator and operator."
