'Help is Here Express' Arrives in Anderson, Seneca

WASHINGTON, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Anderson Independent Mail
reported that the Partnership for Prescription Assistance "Help is Here
Express" bus visited Anderson and Seneca, South Carolina last month.

The bus, funded by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America
(PhRMA), travels around the country helping people get information about
programs that offer prescription assistance.

Karen Spencer was grateful the bus stopped in Anderson. She and her husband
Roy stood in line for about an hour at the Anderson County Farmers Market
waiting for assistance.

"They helped me find some programs that I can go to for help," she said. Karen
takes one medicine that costs her about $200 a month.

Jeff Gilbert, a spokesman for PhRMA, said there are about 475 patient
assistance programs designed to help people get the medicines they need for
free or nearly free. Gilbert said about 130,000 South Carolina residents have
applied for help through the program since it began in 2005.

The bus staff helped about 50 people in Seneca and about 75 in Anderson.

"The economy is still down and, when it's down, we see a spike in the number
of people who ask for help," said the bus staff.

Peggy Davenport's mother has been paying about $500 a month for her
prescriptions out of her own pocket. Peggy came to the Anderson event to get
try to get her mother some help.

"When you don't draw much, that's tough to come up with."
