NEW YORK, NY, Oct 08 (MARKET WIRE) --
On Saturday, October 17th, The Explorers Club celebrates those
individuals who have braved our planet's highest peaks and risked life
for the benefit of standing, even for a moment, on the top of the world.
This is "Mountain Stories," a special event at The Explorers Club
featuring presentations from some of the most prominent individuals in
mountaineering.
The day starts at 9:00am with a continental breakfast and coffee followed
by a series of presentations celebrating the sport of mountaineering and
mountain exploration. A full lunch is served at noon and the day closes
with a book signing and cocktail party at 5:00pm which provides an
opportunity for attendees to meet with the speakers.
Speakers include:
Robert Anderson -- Mountain Guide, Everest summiteer, and author of "Seven
Summits Solo" and "Antonovs over the Arctic," Mr. Anderson will discuss
the challenges of Antarctic climbing. Mr. Anderson's accomplishments have
appeared on NBC's "Today Show" and he has been interviewed on CNN, The New
York Times, Sports Illustrated & USA Today.
Jennifer Loew-Anker -- Artist and author of "Forget Me Not," a beautifully
written story of great love and a tribute to Alex Lowe and his "tribe" of
climbers. In 1999 Jennifer's husband Alex, widely considered one of the
greatest modern climbers, died tragically in an avalanche on the Himalayan
mountain Shishapangma, leaving her alone to raise their three sons.
Ken Kamler, MD -- Ken is a nationally recognized surgeon, explorer and
climber who has made significant and lasting contributions to the
advancement and practice of extreme medicine in some of the most remote
regions on Earth. He is the author of "Doctor on Everest," a memoir about
his experiences as the doctor on the tragic Everest expedition documented
in "Into Thin Air."
Graham Bowley -- Graham is a New York Times reporter who has had numerous
assignments in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Graham will be discussing
the challenges facing K-2 climbers. His book about the tragedy on K-2 will
be published next year by HarperCollins.

professional climbers and mountain guides, Freddie was the 2007 recipient
of the "Robert Hicks Bates Award" for young climbers. He and Janet will
discuss the challenges confronting young climbers in the 21st century.
Kevin Mahoney -- Kevin is a UIAGM certified mountain guide and Mountain
Hardwear climber from New Hampshire. Juggling his time between his family,
and his own guide service, Kevin has been nominated for the "Piolet d'Or"
for the first ascent of "Arctic Rage" on the "Moose's Tooth" in Alaska.
The event is open to the public and held at The Explorers Club's historic
headquarters in New York City which is located at 46 East 70th Street.
