Steve Williams Named Chairman of American Transportation Research Institute

ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Steve Williams, Chairman and
CEO of Maverick USA, Inc., has been appointed Chairman of the American
Transportation Research Institute (ATRI), the trucking industry's 501(c)(3)
not-for-profit research organization. Williams succeeds Doug Duncan,
President and CEO of FedEx Freight.

Williams, who has served on the ATRI Board since 2006, said during his term as
Chairman he would focus on increasing ATRI's visibility, highlighting the
value of ATRI's research, and the crucial role of scientific data in advancing
the industry's safety and productivity.

"ATRI delivers the data gathering and analysis to inform the discussion on a
host of headline issues, including onboard safety systems, freight performance
measures and driver fatigue. Armed with the facts, carriers can make the

Williams applauded Duncan's leadership of ATRI, pointing in particular to the
Institute's successful collaboration with FMCSA, FHWA and EPA on a number of
