Verizon Wireless engineers add coverage and capacity with a COLT

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 8 PRNewswire/ -- As race fans travel to Fontana,
California to see live racing at its best this weekend, Verizon Wireless crews
and engineers have been hard at work revving up wireless coverage. The
company has deployed a "Cell On Light Truck" (COLT) to the speedway to boost
3G coverage and call capacity. That means the Verizon Wireless network is
ready for a spike in calls, text messages, picture messages, video messages
and internet connections in and around the speedway.

Verizon Wireless operates a fleet of locally based COLTs and "Cell on Wheels"
(COWs). These are fully functional, generator-powered mobile cell sites used
for rapid, and short-term network response. For example, in the past year,
the company has deployed mobile cell sites and other equipment to more than a
dozen wildfire incidents around the country to support the communication needs
of fire fighters.
