JUNO BEACH, Fla.--(Business Wire)--
Florida Power & Light Company is ranked No. 1 among electric utilities
nationwide in energy efficiency, and we`re committed to helping customers manage
the energy they use every day. In celebration of national Energy Awareness
Month, FPL is issuing weekly "Money-Saving Myth Busters" to educate customers
about common, energy-related misconceptions. Here`s FPL`s Money-Saving Myth
Buster No. 2:

Myth: "When my computer is off, it isn`t using electricity."

Fact: In reality, computers, TVs, DVD players, DVRs, stereos and even cell phone
chargers continue to draw power even when they are not in use. There are two
easy ways to save energy by preventing these so-called "phantom" loads: 1)
unplug electronics when not in use or 2) plug devices into a power strip that
you can turn off.

A word of caution: shutting off some of these items may require you to reprogram
certain functions when you turn them back on so check your owner`s manual to be
sure.

While your computer is still powered up, take FPL`s free Online Home Energy
Survey to find out which appliances in your home are costing you the most. With
the information you provide, FPL can give you a personalized, convenient and
expert energy-saving analysis of your home`s energy use. You'll be able to input
different scenarios and discover how small changes can impact your energy usage.
