Integrates ISO Certification and Accreditation into One System
CHELMSFORD, Mass.--(Business Wire)--
ZOLL Medical Corporation (Nasdaq GS: ZOLL), a manufacturer of resuscitation
devices and related software solutions, announced today that its facility in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that manufacturers and sells the LifeVest® Wearable
Defibrillator, has received Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics
and Supplies (DMEPOS) Accreditation from Medicare. This designation, in
combination with its ISO 13485 certification, makes ZOLL`s Pittsburgh facility
one of the few healthcare organization facilities to integrate its Medicare
accreditation and ISO 13485 certification into a single accredited management
system.

The Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA)
requires all DMEPOS suppliers to meet quality standards for Medicare
accreditation, which is mandatory to maintain National Supplier Clearinghouse
(NSC) billing privileges. DMEPOS accreditation specifically focuses on standards
for administration, financial management, human resource management, consumer
services, performance management, product safety, and information management.
The accreditation also contains service standards, including intake, delivery
and set-up, training and instruction of the beneficiary and/or their caregiver,
and follow-up service.

"ZOLL continues to demonstrate its commitment to the highest level of business
standards by obtaining the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services DMEPOS
Accreditation," said Richard A. Packer, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of
ZOLL. "We are pleased that our process and management systems have enabled us to
achieve this milestone."

The LifeVest durable medical equipment (DME) business model allows a physician
to protect a specific patient by placing a medical order directly with ZOLL.
From this point, ZOLL manages the process to protect the patient from sudden
cardiac arrest through hospital discharge and recovery at home, including
fitting the LifeVest to the specific patient, educating the patient in the
hospital, managing all of the medical documentation and insurance paperwork, and
being available to address any patient needs once home.

The LifeVest is covered by most health plans in the United States, including
commercial, state, and federal plans. To date, the LifeVest has been prescribed
to more than 18,000 patients. For more information, go to www.zoll.lifecor.com
