Libyan airline awards OnAir on jets telecoms deal

RABAT Oct 8 (Reuters) - Libyan flag carrier Arab Libyan Airline has signed a deal with Airbus EADS.PA subsidiary OnAir to enable its passengers to use mobile phones, short text messages and Internet, the Tripoli-based company said on Thursday.
"The accord on mobile phones, text messages and Internet services would help improve services we provide to our passengers," said the airline in a statement, adding that the telecoms services on its planes would start next September.
The statement, carried by the Libyan state news agency Jana, gave no financial details for the deal which was reached on the sidelines of Libya's airshow, staged at Maitigua airport on the outskirts of Tripoli.
OnAir is owned by airlines industry IT services group SITA and Airbus. (Reporting by Lamine Ghanmi; Editing by Carol Bishopric)
