NEW YORK Oct 8 (Reuters) - Valero Energy Corp (VLO.N) said on Thursday that it is still assessing a hydrocracker that was shut earlier this week at its oil refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas, following a small fire.

"There's no update yet on the HCU at Corpus Christi; we're still doing assessments there," Bill Day, a spokesman for the largest U.S. refiner, told Reuters in an email.

On Wednesday, Valero reported it was forced to shut the hydrocracker after a small fire at the refinery overnight. The refiner is making necessary repairs and will "restore normal operation as quickly as possible," Valero had said in notices with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
