Oct 13 (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department has indicted a handful of foreigners who allegedly helped Americans evade U.S. taxes, charges that stem from the department's investigation into Swiss banking giant UBS AG (UBSN.VX) (UBS.N). Following are four who have been charged but remain fugitives from U.S. arrest.

* Raoul Weil, a Swiss citizen who was then head of wealth management at UBS, was charged in Florida in November 2008 with conspiring to help thousands of Americans hide $20 billion in assets from U.S. authorities. Weil, who has claimed innocence, has not appeared in court since his indictment and is a fugitive.

* Mario Staggl, a banker who was not an employee of UBS, was indicted by federal prosecutors in Florida in April 2008 on charges he helped a billionaire American property developer evade taxes.

* Hansruedi Schumacher, a Swiss former UBS banker who moved to Neue Zuercher Bank, was indicted in August 2009 on charges that he worked with Americans to hide their assets. U.S. prosecutors charged that he told clients that his new employer did not have U.S. operations which would make it less likely to receive pressure from the United States to reveal those accounts.

* Matthias Rickenbach, a Swiss lawyer, was indicted along with Schumacher in the alleged scheme. So far, two of their clients have pleaded guilty to hiding their accounts from U.S. tax authorities. (Reporting by Jeremy Pelofsky, editing by David Storey)
