LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Matthew Perry is returning to broadcast television with an untitled comedy he will star in, co-write and executive produce.

The former "Friends" star conceived the project, in which he will play the self-involved manager of a second-rate sports arena who begins to re-evaluate his life on his 40th birthday. Perry turned 40 in August.

The project, which Perry will write with "Rules of Engagement" co-executive producers Alex Barnow and Mark Firek, is being pitched to networks this week.

Perry is the third "Friends" veteran returning to series TV. Courteney Cox stars in ABC's "Cougar Town," and Matt LeBlanc recently signed on to star in the Showtime/BBC series "Episodes."

Perry most recently appeared in the feature "17 Again."
