NEW YORK Oct 20 (Reuters) - The Canadian dollar fell against its U.S. counterpart on Tuesday after the Bank of Canada kept interest rates on hold and said its strong currency "would more than fully offset" the goods news on the economy.

The U.S. dollar surged versus the Canadian currency CAD= to C$1.0361, up around 0.9 percent from C$1.0315 just before. The Canadian currency, however, has gained more than 17 percent versus the greenback so far this year.
