The U.S. Military HIV Research Program
The U.S. Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) is at the forefront of the
battle against HIV to protect U.S. troops from infection and to reduce the
global impact of the disease.

MHRP is an international research program centered at the Walter Reed Army
Institute of Research in Silver Spring, Maryland. Research is conducted in
conjunction with the U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command and the
Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc.

While its primary focus has been on developing a globally effective preventive
HIV-1 vaccine, MHRP is actively committed to and engaged in providing
effective prevention, care and treatment programs in the communities in which
they conduct research. At these sites -- which include Tanzania, Uganda,
Kenya, Nigeria and Thailand -- they also focus on strain surveillance, cohort
development and therapeutic studies.

MHRP conducts Phase I clinical trials on candidate HIV vaccines and blood
draw/blood component studies to support research at the Rockville Vaccine
Assessment Center (RVAC), located adjacent to its research laboratories in
Rockville, Maryland.
