Tokyo (Reuters) - Japan's Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) may spend about 40 billion yen ($440 million) on recalling 3.8 million cars sold in the U.S. after a fatal accident due to a defect that may cause floor mats to jam accelerator pedals, the Tokyo Shimbun newspaper reported on Wednesday.

While the company is now urging the owners of the vehicles to remove floor mats, it is considering recalling the cars and fixing accelerator pedals, the paper reported. ($1=90.65 Yen)
