BUENOS AIRES Oct 22 (Reuters) - Argentina's Economy Minister Amado Boudou is scheduled to make an "important announcement" at 6:00 p.m. (2100 GMT), his spokesman said on Thursday.

The spokesman declined to say what the announcement involved.

A leading TV station, TodoNoticias, reported the government was expected to announce it is reopening its 2005 debt restructuring to mop up $20 billion of defaulted bonds still held by investors who did not accept the terms of the deal four years ago.

The channel did not cite any source for the information.

Investors have been watching the government for weeks for a possible announcement regarding the investors -- known as "holdouts".
