Latin American Operator Demonstrates Regional Leadership in Pay TV by Upgrading to New Irdeto Customer Care and Billing Solution CARLSBAD, Calif.--(Business Wire)-- Irdeto, a leading expert in content and business model protection solutions and services, today announced that DIRECTV Latin America in Chile (DTVLA-Chile) has gone live on Irdeto`s new customer care and billing solution - a customizable, cost-effective system that will enable the pay TV operator to effectively manage multi-play services, streamline workflows and improve efficiency. The DTVLA network delivers premium television content to more than 5.8 million subscribers throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, and DTVLA-Chile is the third territory in the Panamericana region to take this important step forward in managing costs and maximizing revenue for premium television delivery. "For DTVLA-Chile, the upgrade to Irdeto`s latest customer care and billing solution was a natural and exciting progression to our offering," said Antonio Pages, IT Director of DIRECTV Panamericana. "The new solution gives us the competitive edge we need to more effectively manage our current subscription base, sell into new markets and increase our average revenue per user. We look forward to our continued relationship with Irdeto and growing our business in the region." According to research published earlier this year from telecom consulting firm Signals Telecom Consulting, pay TV services in Latin America will add over 22.5 million new subscribers by 2014, penetrating more than 35 percent of Latin American households. Irdeto`s newest customer care and billing solution offers several enhancements that directly benefit DTVLA-Chile, including pre-paid services, more options for handling commercial models and new multi-unit dwelling (MDU) capabilities where an entire high-rise building can be connected over the same service. Given Chile`s mixed rural and urban landscape, upgrading to Irdeto`s latest solution allows the operator to better reach residential markets, expand into MDUs and leverage new package options for their current customer base. "Pay TV is a highly competitive and challenging market, which is why DTVLA has partnered with Irdeto for more than ten years to create sustainable business models that are reliable, flexible and cost effective," said Brian Forssman, senior vice president of Irdeto`s Business Support Systems (BSS) product group. "DTVLA-Chile is striving to put more standardization in place throughout the region to reduce total cost of ownership, and our newest solution is the vehicle that will drive them there." Irdeto's complete end-to-end customer care and billing solution services start-ups through Tier 1 operators, with in excess of 17 million subscribers under management globally. The solution is currently deployed across the Brazilian and Panamericana divisions of DTVLA, reaching a total of 4.3 million subscribers. In addition to Chile, Irdeto has also upgraded DTVLA solutions to the newest version in Colombia and Trinidad with 400,000 subscribers under its management. The remaining seven countries being serviced by Irdeto are now in the process of migrating over to the solution`s latest version, with DTVLA paying a recurring license and maintenance fee for all subscribers. "The pay TV arena is undergoing a revival in Latin America, with new entrants and operators seeking more comprehensive solutions to build and retain subscribers," said Giovani Henrique, country manager for Latin America at Irdeto. "Irdeto`s next generation customer care and billing solution addresses the broad scope of current market requirements and will help see us into the next generation of pay TV services."
