WPA Salvation Army Announces Annual Dinner Awardees - Former Steelers Great Lynn Swann To Speak CARNEGIE, Pa., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Majors Robert and Lynette Reel, Western Pennsylvania Divisional Leaders of The Salvation Army, are pleased to announce that Lynn Swann, Former Pittsburgh Steeler, business leader, and motivational speaker will be the featured guest at the organization's 2009 Allegheny County Doing the Most Good Dinner. Sponsored by FedEx Ground and slated for Tuesday, November 17th at the Sheraton Station Square, the event will also honor the Pittsburgh Penguins; Tom and Sandra Usher; and Wendy's Restaurants of Western Pennsylvania. Lynn Swann began his broadcasting career in 1976 while still active with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Swann has broadcast a variety of events as a host, reporter, and analyst. Included in these events are: the 1976 Winter Olympics, the 1976 Summer Olympics, the 1980 Winter Olympics, the 1984 Winter Olympics, the 1984 Summer Olympics, the 1988 Winter Olympics, the Iditarod Trail sled dog race, International Diving Championships, USFL, college football and Monday Night Football, the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, Belmont Stakes, the Irish Derby; and ABC's Wide World of Sports. Swann was inducted into the Pro-Football Hall of Fame in 2001. Lynn currently sits on the board of directors of H.J. Heinz Company, Hershey Entertainment and Resorts, Harrah's Entertainment, Empower Software and Transdel Pharmaceuticals. He is also the Managing Director of Diamond Edge Capital Partners, a financial marketing firm. Since 1980 Lynn Swann has been the National Spokesman for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. It is this community leadership, along with other qualities, that led President George W. Bush to ask Lynn to serve as the Chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. It is because of this sense of community responsibility that The Salvation Army has asked Lynn to speak to the importance of volunteerism and giving back. Awards to be presented include The Project Bundle-Up Award to the Pittsburgh Penguins for their long-term service to providing needy kids and seniors with new winter outerwear; the William Booth and Catherine Booth Awards, named after the founders of The Salvation Army, to be given to Tom and Sandra Usher for their philanthropic efforts; and the Community Service Award will go to Wendy's Restaurants of Western Pennsylvania for their keytag promotion that benefits The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign.
