HOUSTON Oct 22 (Reuters) - Firefighters doused a blaze on Wednesday night at Tesoro Corp's (TSO.N) 58,000 barrel per day (bpd) Salt Lake City, Utah, refinery, according to a fire department spokesman.

No injuries were reported due to the fire, which broke out as the refinery was attempting to restart following a Wednesday afternoon power outage, said Mark Bednarik of the Salt Lake City fire department.

A Tesoro representative was not immediately available to discuss the fire.

The fire broke out after crude oil, which had leaked from the base of a safety flare stack, ignited while the refinery was trying to restart on Wednesday night, Bednarik said.

Burning oil extended up to 200 yards from the flare stack, which is a tall tower used to burn off hydrocarbons that refinery production units are unable to process.

The fire was located well away from refinery production units, he said. Maintenance vehicles were destroyed in the blaze that local media reports said could be seen for miles.

The Salt Lake City blaze is the third fire at a Tesoro refinery in the last three months. In August, a small fire broke out at the company's Mandan, North Dakota, refinery. In September, a fire broke out in a coking unit at Tesoro's Los Angeles-area refinery in Wilmington, California.

Tesoro is an independent refiner based in San Antonio with seven refineries in the western United States, Alaska and Hawaii. The refineries have a total throughput of 665,000 bpd. (Reporting by Erwin Seba)
